We're Winding Down 47

When we launched 47 in January, our goal was simple: create a short, non-partisan daily briefing that helped people cut through the noise and understand what was happening in the Trump Administration.

Thanks to you, we reached 4,000 subscribers. Every morning, thousands of you opened the newsletter, replied with thoughts, and shared it with friends. That early momentum was thrilling - at one point, we were adding 40 new subscribers a day. Our content has amassed millions of impressions online, and helped deliver balanced news to an environment that is often polarized.

But over the past couple of months, subscriber growth plateaued on our Substack. In fact, we’ve been losing readers. We’ve worked hard to turn that around - testing ads, pricing, and new strategies - but ultimately, the economics aren’t making sense to continue publishing 47 daily.

So we’ve decided to wind it down. Thursday’s edition will be the last.

If you’re a paying subscriber, first: thank you. Your support has meant so much, and kept us going for nearly eight months. Over the next week, we’ll process refunds for the remainder of your subscription period. You’ll also continue to have access to the archive of all past editions.

This isn’t necessarily goodbye forever. We may return to 47 or something like it in the future, but for now, we’re focusing our energy on other projects. If we do relaunch, you’ll be the first to know.
