Pope Condemns Deportations, Trump Official Fires Back
The Pope's letter criticizes mass deportations, prompting a sharp response from Trump’s border czar.

In a strongly worded letter to U.S. bishops, Pope Francis condemned President Trump’s mass deportation policies as a violation of human dignity.
Key Highlights from Pope Francis’s Letter
Pope Francis urged compassion toward migrants, especially those fleeing violence or hardship. The Pope invoked two biblical stories:
The Israelites fleeing Egypt after the bondage of slavery in Exodus
Jesus and his family escaping the threat of murder under King Herod by hiding in Egypt
Francis called on Catholics worldwide to recognize the dignity of all people, especially society’s most vulnerable.
He also stated that the "rightly formed conscience cannot fail to make a critical judgment and express its disagreement with any measure that tacitly or explicitly identifies the illegal status of some migrants with criminality."
However, Francis also acknowledged a nation’s right to “keep communities safe from those who have committed violent or serious crime.” (Full letter here)
Trump Administration Counters
Tom Homan, the administration’s border czar, dismissed the Pope’s remarks, stating, The “Pope ought to fix the Catholic Church. I’m saying this as a lifelong Catholic. I was baptized Catholic. My first communion as a Catholic, confirmation as a Catholic,” Homan said. “He ought to fix the Catholic Church and concentrate on his work and leave border enforcement to us.” (CBS, The Hill)
Homan went on to state, “He's got a wall around the Vatican, does he not?" The Vatican contains a number of walls as well areas open to te public around St. Peter’s square.
Areas of Overlap: Where the Pope and Trump’s Administration Agree
Despite their differences, the Pope and the administration share common ground:
Targeting Criminal Activity: The Pope’s letter acknowledges that nations have a right to prosecutre individuals who pose a threat to community safety or have committed violent crimes.
Respect for Sovereignty: Both recognize that nations have a right to enforce borders, though the scope and methods remain contentious.
Where they differ is in how broadly to apply deportations. The Pope warns against sweeping policies that fail to distinguish between violent offenders and those fleeing hardship.
The Catholic Church does not deserve tax free status. We should sue any organization that backed the cruel cynical relocation scheme. Francis I am an old catholic. You in my opinion are evil.
